Welcome to the Tucson International Airport (TUS) Voluntary Residential Sound Insulation Program (RSIP) website.

The TUS RSIP is a part of the Airfield Safety Enhancement (ASE) Program. This estimated $360-million airfield reconfiguration project will bring TUS into compliance with current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) standards and help correct “hotspot” issues for pilots. When determining the feasibility of the ASE Program, the Tucson Airport Authority (TAA) was required to go through a federally regulated process to analyze the environmental effects of the proposed changes from the ASE Project. The outcome of this was an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) indicating the TAA would have to initiate a sound insulation program to mitigate the potential for aircraft noise due to the reconstruction of a new runway.

As a result, the TAA has initiated this voluntary RSIP to mitigate the effects of aircraft noise for properties surrounding the airport and ahead of the reconstruction and lengthening of one of our parallel runways.

Approximately 60 housing units have been identified as being within the proposed impact area. The program area is north of Elvira Road, south of Medina Road, west of Nogales Highway, and approximately 750 feet east of South 6^th Avenue.

The purpose of the program is to reduce interior noise levels per FAA required noise reduction goals.

The program will be limited to homes based on the following criteria:

• Properties are located within the designated program area which is determined by the FAA.
• Homeowner willingness to sign an avigation easement.
• The home complies with local building codes.
• The home must have been built prior to October 1, 1998, unless the home is identified as being part of the airport’s long-term implementation plan to provide noise mitigation measures to eligible residences located within the FAA approved project boundaries.
